Doing something just for the end result, this idea of doing something just for the end result came to me in a free flow dance class. I was trying to move my neck in a certain way to make a familiar pop, my version of a chiropractic adjustment. I was just looking for that crack sensation in my movement.

So I do not know if you have known someone that does that, moves their back to make a crack or does it with their fingers. It can actually be quite disturbing for some people around to hear that. Anyways, I had this realization of instead moving my body in a way, only because it is called to move that way. To move in a circle and feel the lightness of circulation, or move my hands to feel that squeeze and release sensation. When the energy moves me to circulate my joints, I focus on how good the sensation feels instead of “looking for a crack”.

So if you are one of those people who moves your back just to make your body crack. I invite you to try a different approach: stretching that area because it feels good to feel the muscles lengthen. You are stretching for the stretch. Act because the energy calls you to do it. Having this sense of control every time you do it for an end result can start to feel stagnant and commanding. And it will never be enough. You will be addicted to making that crack happen seven times a day. Not only that, It does not look nice, and it is a neurotic kind of energy. So I’m a big believer of how you do one thing is how you do everything, and I noticed how this energy is reflected in other areas of life.

Eating just to be full, so I can move on back to work. This also leads into practice of presence, which can be one of the easiest times to practice presence, concentrating on all the sensations of food. I realized also that if I am doing something only to make money, it's an obligation, and a duty. And it is not necessarily a process that flows.

There are so many examples now where I notice myself doing something just to get it done, that also robs me of the moment and conscious process I could otherwise experience.

I have not cracked my neck on purpose for a few days now and have been stretching the muscles around the joints instead and doing visualizations instead. Are there any habits you have noticed that show up in other ways?

Below I have a strong and helpful technique for bringing relief to the neck, a deep guided meditation to focus on that area, also known as autogenics or hypnosis.

Please watch below and let me know in the comments how it worked for you.
